Criticism for Kong Skull Island vs Dunkirk

So Dunkirk is a film experience that relies more on throwing the audience into the situation and relying on characters actions to dictate their personalities, and we are supposed to care about them on a more human level rather than because of a backstory. It got very little criticism for that aspect but Kong received lots of criticism for its lack of character development making it hard to care about what's going on. Why is it that Kong received criticism for weak characters but Dunkirk did not? via /r/movies http://ift.tt/2he7v8A
