In Breaking Bad, are Walter's actions completely Machiavellian, or is the some degree of selfless consideration to some of his actions?

I was re-watching Breaking Bad and asked myself the same question I wondered the first time I watched it. Particularly in the way he deals with Jesse, do Walter's actions purely stem from selfish motives, or does he take others into consideration to some extent? via /r/television http://ift.tt/2tUBMiu
