What makes an 80s movie FEEL like an 80s movie from a cinematic perspective?

Can anyone help me on a simple discussion topic I wanted to bring up. What makes an 80s movie look like an 80s movie? What did they do, and what kind of technology did they use on set compared to different eras of film? Why does Terminator look so much different then say Terminator 3? Was it all just film and production technology? Was it purely technique?I remember reading that they brought back the original cinematographer from Terminator 1 for the 80s scene in Genysis, which I thought they really nailed the look.I just don't think an older film seems different due to age or nostalgia (I was born in the 90s so...), there has to be some tangible reasoning why I like the feel of them better. Music and era have a lot to do with it also, but I'd like some input from someone a lot more knowledgeable which filming and production history. via /r/movies http://ift.tt/2tNkN00
