How the heck is anyone disappointed that Matt Reeves replace Affleck as director for The Batman?

Saw War for the Planet of the Apes earlier this week, and it cemented my immediate joy at the fact that Affleck isn't writing/directing this anymore. I was always hesistant towards Affleck behind the helm, and I'm frankly stunned a healthy amount of people are complaining about Reeves replacing him.I'm a fan of Affleck, but his track record isn't anything to fawn over. His Oscar win might as well contain an asterisk (Argo better than Lincoln, The Master, Django, Zero Dark Thirty, Moonrise Kingdom, Silver Linings, or Life of Pi? Hell no; it's another odd Oscars phenomena case where a tame nomination somehow walked home with gold when there were heavier contendors), and his other films are fine, modest dramas at best. They don't display any technical derring-do that Reeves's Apes movies have distinguished themselves with, and Reeves also seems like a more natural fit for this type of film. Of course, Nolan wasn't a natural fit for Batman, but I'd rank Memento and Insomnia leagues above anything Affleck's made. Am I off base? I just can't see this man having the right ideas for writing/directing men in underwear fight each other. Reeves, on the other hand, has made apes more relatable and sympathetic than our own species. via /r/movies http://ift.tt/2t3ydSI
